The Chinese Shar Pei is one of the few dogs that has a blue toungue and is as old as 206 BC. This, coupled with its wrinkles, was thought to scare away evil spirits in China. These dogs are very loyal to handlers, but only obey comands of a consistent firm leader. Provided they have a good strong leader, they will be calm, easygoing, and devoted dogs. In order for these independant dogs to accept kids and other animals in the family, they must be introduced at a young age. They can have issues with other dominant dogs, and other dogs in general if not well socialized. As a breed, Chinese Shar Pei is very clean and housebreak quickly, although, they do not like water.
